Tina this short gal (me) needs a sheer midi/sweater dress combo. It’s your fault. Any tips on finding good petite sheer midi skirts?

It's a great combo and that's a great question! I'm the opposite end and things are never long enough for me, so I don't have as much insight into petites. I'll keep an eye out and come back once I track down any good petite sheer skirt intel :)

Hands down the coolest inspo for wearing a sheer skirt - I loved this so much Tina!! I can feel the joy this skirt is bringing you from your words and how you've styled it! The burgundy is perfect for fall, and you've styled it in so many different ways that really feel like you. I especially love the look you put together with the leather jacket and boots. Also, thank you for the shoutout! x

Maria thank you so much for this incredibly kind comment 🥹 I felt the joy in styling this and am already planning my next outfit. Your article on how to wear sheer was total perfection and I highly recommend this to anyone dipping their toe into the sheer trend this fall - it's packed with great ideas.

I really appreciate how mindful you are and we could all take a page from you. If we were all as thoughtful, I think there would be less in landfills in general. It's very hard to be a thoughtful consumer in a capitalistic society and I think the fact that you even think about it is more than the average consumer.

You look absolutely divine in that burgundy skirt !! I love it with every look you paired and I'm now curious what shapewear you're wearing! I have a lace skirt and I'd love something similar to wear under it.

You are too kind Ofelia, thank you so much ♥️ I haven't been feeling my most circular self since I bought my skirt, but wearing it four times in a week helped with that :)

My shapewear is Naomi & Nicole. My pairs are pretty ancient, but have all held up well for the amount I've worn them. What I really like is that the briefs are full coverage in the back and have elastic bands around the inside of each leg so nothing rides up. I also repurpose my activewear bike shorts and capris underneath my sheer things - it's a lumpier look, so I usually save them for when I'm wearing a longer shirt on top.

And I hear you on the conflict around consumption. I feel like women carry so much guilt about their spending…do we really spend that much? If it’s more about being mindful vs. mindless then I totally agree. We should always examine our motives and actions! Yes!🙌

Thank you for both of your lovely comments Sheila. A black mesh dress sounds so versatile, and I love to hear that you already have big plans for styling it :) Agree about the shopping guilt! Ewelina said something similar below and it feels so true. I appreciate your framing of examining our motives and actions.

I so admire your sheer skirtedness, Tina! I actually bought a sheer black mesh dress today, thinking about how I could wear it, and still feel like me, I’m excited to try blazers, sweaters and possibly pants underneath.

This is a beautiful skirt, gorgeous colour! I love every single outfit.💕

Tina this is so good! Love the colour combos and the way you make sheer accessible for daytime. And I totally relate to the tension between loving clothes and the guilt of over consuming.. I have been sitting with this over the past few weeks and it’s so tricky to navigate!

Thank you for your kind words Pip! The consumption guilt is real and I still have the urge to buy more new things 🫠 I can't tell if it's exacerbated by breaking the seal with something new, my normal state of shoppies, or wanting to #littletreat myself with big treats, but it's comforting to know it's not just me, especially since your wardrobe is so circular. If you buy something new, wishing you the ability to fully enjoy it :)

I so appreciate the reflection and honesty around fashion/clothing consumption and the guilt, and also the joy it can bring, and holding oneself accountable throughout it all. I totally relate. We need more voices like here (substack, the world).

Jenny, I feel less alone knowing you have the same thought process around your purchases. I appreciate the way you approach consumption always ♥️ Secondhand and the occasional new item ftw!

I just love this look and the way you match these ethereal skirts with the structure of a great jacket and or a sweater. I need to find a way to make this work for my job

Danielle, thanks so much! Tbh, I've only worked in fashion offices where dress codes are pretty open, but it seems like a long sweater or blazer with tights could add enough coverage for a non-fashion office? I'd love to see what you put together :)

I have a sheer lace midi skirt but it’s not straight it is a bit flowy and I think that makes it a little harder to style, though I’m thinking at work I could just wear it as a skirt over a skirt. I’ll share when it happens. You’ve inspired me.

Oh yes, aren’t we all guilty of being guilty to consume fashion? 🙈 I wonder whether this kind of empathy and sensitivity is predominantly a characteristic of women. Do men care just as much? 👀

Ewelina, I was just thinking about this the other day and have the same question! It does feel like something more women are attuned to. I think I read an scientific article about this when I was doing sustainability research a couple of years ago. If I can track it down, I'll be back :)

Please do!!! I know for sure that women are generally more concerned about the climate and general injustice in the world. Maybe we judge ourselves harder because we shop more?

Anecdotally, agree! My female friends as a whole tend to be more aware of/concerned with environmental impacts than my male friends. Very generalized ofc, but it feels true to life.

This looks so fab, the cobalt blue was unexpected but looks incredible. Thanks for sharing openly about your internal struggle with the joy of shopping. It’s a conundrum for anyone who loves playing around with new ideas and pieces. I’m with you though, if and when you do purchase, let yourself feel the joy of the new and then wear, wear, wear!!
